Apotheke nach Maaß

Giving store storage the midcentury treatment.

Based in Bretten, Germany, independent pharmacy, Apotheke nach Maaß offers visitors tailor-made health services – naturally, its interior design approach called for the same tailored touch. String Furniture was administered.

Owner, Ariane Maaß tasked Omas Studio with creating a new pharmacy in the style of 1950s and 60s design. Their brief was to capture her nostalgia for this era of craft, while harnessing the same sense of modernity the midcentury commanded to create a contemporary setting. What better system to uphold these qualities than String® in classic walnut?

"The String® system was ideal for combining nostalgic flair with modern design." - Ariane Maaß

An obsession with the unobvious.

If there’s one thing you expect walking into a pharmacy, it’s shelving. Medicines and remedies stacked high to cure all manner of complaints. All in, white? You’d be forgiven for assuming the clean, clinical aesthetic white shelving might lend would be the obvious choice. But, obvious wasn’t the answer for Omas Studio GmbH & Co. KG. Walnut was.

Chosen specifically to summon the elegance of midcentury interiors, the choice of dark walnut shelves and black side panels also brings warmth befitting of the pharmacy’s ethos. In another departure from sterility, Omas chose to complement the feature walnut shelving with further String®classics in beige. Both pair perfectly with the store’s rich palette, stylistic wallpaper, gold accents and textural details.
